Reaching Solutions
By the Sandy Lego Fiddlebots
Sung to the tune of

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Fiddle Style

First LEGO League is an international competition
We design and program LEGO robots to do missions
We also prepare a research report
This song is a result of our effort.
This year “No Limits” is the theme.
There’s eight weeks to prepare as a team.

In 1990 the American Disabilities Act
Was passed to help people who lacked.
It added ramps, accessible bathrooms and things,
So people could move easier in buildings.
There are many many things
In the ADA Guidelines for Buildings.

There are many disabilities,
That stop people from having mobility.
Missing legs and twisted spines,
Damaged nerves and undeveloped thighs.
All these different disabilities
Affect these people’s agility.

So that we could understand
About disabilities first hand
Grossmont Medical Center’s Engineer
Gave us ear plugs so we couldn't hear.
He gave us glasses so we couldn't see
Finding the elevator was not easy.

We went to the library
To see if it had accessibility.
It was hard to open the front door
Since there was no automatic opener.
The ramp to the children’s area was a squeeze,
Couldn’t pass the magazine rack with ease.

Most of the aisles are very wide.
There was lots of room inside.
The computer terminals are just right.
Book carts made the bathroom hall tight.
To get some books you’d have to fly,
Because typical shelves are very high.

At the library in Pacific Beach
We met a lady who couldn’t reach
Mrs. Neuhaus was her name
She used crutches so she wouldn’t be lame
She couldn’t reach the very top shelf
So she asked a librarian for help

When you’re in a wheelchair
It’s hard to reach shelves in the air.
But the answer is a Reachomatic arm
So there’s no need for alarm.
Now the problem has been lit.
This is what we did to fix it.

A robotic arm that would work
With a camera that did not jerk.
This arm can extend three feet.
It will help those who can’t reach.
“What do you think?” we asked the Branch Manager.
“A good idea,” he did answer.

Artificial arms can reach and extend,
They can grasp and they can bend.
Making lives of the handicapped better.
We help when we work together.
Now we can help those who lost their limbs,
By giving them (Beat).. Mobility Again!

No Limits!
